You're So Special

Oh don't get a big head. We're talking about specialty boarding schools here.

These schools are a far cry from our perception of a boarding school.

Yes, some specialty schools are for troubled students with drug and alcohol problems. They are combined with treatment facilities equipped to deal with a wide variety of emotional problems.

How about a school for fun reasons? There are schools for art, music, drama, science, and wildlife study to name a few. Media arts is now a popular area of study as well. Yeah! Play and design video games.

The curriculum is still tough, but the opportunities to explore your passion are endless. Teachers typically have advanced degrees and work or have worked in their area of expertise.

Studies are combined with practice and studio time for the budding artist or musician. Plays and musicals are there for drama students, writers, photographers, and film students.

How wonderful would it be to please your parents by getting a good education and please yourself by learning what you love at the same time. Being with other students of like mind fosters creativity.

Often group projects are assigned and everyone learns to work together. There are scholarships and grants available to ease the strain on your parent's wallets. There may also be work-study programs.

In any case, if you really want to pursue a particular area of study, there is usually a way to make it happen.
