Board In The U.S.A.

No, this is not a misprint of the Bruce Springsteen song.

This refers to boarding schools in the United States. Boarding schools? What's wrong with public schools?

There is nothing wrong with public school. Some students just do better in a different setting. They may need more help than a public school provides. Boarding schools have much smaller classes allowing more individual attention. The faculty is even available after normal school hours to help with homework. To any parent struggling to help with modern algebra, that is worth its weight in gold.

There are also boarding schools for children with emotional problems, ADHA, autism, and learning disabilities. These children will benefit immensely from a boarding school setting.

What about drugs, alcohol or eating disorders? There are programs to address those things as well. In cases of drug and alcohol problems, removing a child from bad influences is key in their recovery.

While boarding schools have long been popular in other countries, they are more widely available in the US than in years past.

Maybe your child is just not challenged in public school. Boredom can lead to bad behavior or apathy towards school in general. Boarding schools offer excellent academics to challenge any student.

We need to rethink the idea that boarding school is just for badly behaved students or for the very wealthy. They can be a chance to have a great experience, get a superior education and form lifetime friendships. With grants, scholarships and finance options, they can be in reach of most people.

Check out a few schools and visit them. You may be pleasantly surprised.
