Are You A Preppie?

This term most likely evolved from students who attended a prep school.

With conservative values and manner of dress, the term preppie was born. You know, khaki pants, Izod shirts, boat shoes, and pearls.

This stuffy idea about prep school is outdated. Modern prep schools focus less on family name and more on diversity these days. You are just as likely to room with someone completely different, even from another country, as someone exactly like you.

Prep schools are just that. They prepare the student for college and in some cases, they offer post high school classes for those who are not quite ready for the college experience or need to improve their grades before entering college.

Most prep school are privately funded and have large endowments. This allows for a better than average faculty with advanced degrees. Faculty retention is also easier because of tenure.

Academics are challenging and while the focus is on achieving your goals, prep schools also want a well rounded student. A variety of extracurricular activities are offered. There is something for everyone.

Life in a dormitory setting also mimics what the student will experience in college and better prepare them for life after high school. Students was gain a greater level of self sufficiency and responsibility in prep school.

There are financing options as well as grants and scholarships to make attending prep school more attainable for the average family. If you think this may the way to go, check out a few schools and arrange for a visit. You'll be glad you did.
