Boarding High Schools

Boarding high schools were used in years past, were kids are sent away to school for behavioral reasons.

It was punishment for being a problem to parents and teachers alike. These schools were designed to make problem kids into solid citizens whatever it took. They were often referred to as reform schools and to be sent to one was a social stigma.

These days going away to school is not punishment for many high school students. It's an opportunity to get out of crowded public school classrooms and get a more individualized education. These boarding high schools can be Christian schools, military, college prep, or special needs. Some are co-ed.

In England and France there has been a surge in boarding school enrollment, humorously referred to as the "Harry Potter effect". Since the first Harry Potter books came out, children have begged to be sent away to school. In England, existing schools were enlarged and new schools built.

This has not been the case in the United States. Boarding high school enrollment has not changed.

Boarding high schools is a good option for serious students who want something more than a public school can provide. With all the budget cuts public schools have suffered in recent years, a private school can offer a wider variety of subjects and more individual attention.

Of course, this comes at a price, but affordable schools exist. Thre are many scholarship programs and finance to make them accessible for almost any budget. What can your child gain from attending such a school? Quite simply put, many students thrive away from the peer pressure and bad influences that are present in many public schools.

Private schools focus not just on the academics, but the child as a whole, nurturing their interests and strengths. Private school students learn to be self sufficient and to make choices on their own and are often better prepared for college and life in the working world.
